All Finished

Yesterday Jon finished up his gun cabinet and I think it looks great! Here is a picture of what it looked like the last time I posted something:

Since this picture he has added felt where the guns rest against the wood, in the picture it was half done on the right side but now it is all finished. Also in this picture there is no glass in the doors and he has added that and the thing he has worked on the most is the handles for the cabinet and he made those out of deer antlers. This took him sometime to figure out how to do it but it looks soooooo good, I am very impressed with him most days and how he does stuff. He then decorated the inside with pheasant feathers of Trevor's first pheasant and some shot gun shells.

Our Weekend Part 1

Well we had a big weekend, 3 full days! First I will share Jon's adventure, he went antelope hunting in Faith SD with my dad, brother, his uncle and a friend from Ivanhoe. They left on Friday morning at the crack of dawn and came home last night around supper time and Jon took a camera to give me some pictures to share with everyone. I do not know all the stories yet but will show you come pictures I liked. In one of the pictures Jon's pickup is on 3 wheels because they where going into a ditch and hit a pot hole and the tire went in and they almost rolled the pickup (mom do not freak out they are all okay). So of course being boys they got out and took a picture most people would try to get it back on 4 wheels!

New Gun Cabinet

Most of you know that I bought Jon an awesome gun cabinet when he came home from Iraq but since we have moved out of our last house we have had no way of getting into our new house (it does not fit down the stairs and is too big for upstairs). If you remember the way we got it into our last house we had to cut a door into the wall so we had a way of getting it back out. Once the basement was finished it looked like the door belonged there. Anyways in our new house Jon needed a place to put all of his guns and I wanted a place so they could be locked up. Well in our basement there was a space in the wall that the previous owner had put ugly shelves in so we took them out and Jon built a gun cabinet in there. I can not believe how good it turned out, Jon rocks at this stuff!!! We are waiting for the glass for the doors and we have to put trim on the bottom but otherwise it is all done. We have to dig his hunting decorative glasses out of storage to put on the shelves. He even put lights in it to shine down at the guns, pretty creative huh?

A New Home

Since we have moved into our new home Mydland (our dog) has been staying at Greg's house. But since my brother has sold his house and closed on it this week we have had to get some things together to get him over here. So the past 2 nights we have bought a dog kennel and put it next to the garage and Jon wanted to build a little home for him so he can get out of the rain and cold. I was thinking something simple but that is never the case with Jon....instead he has built Mydland a castle of his own that has shingles on it and is insulated in the walls. He even painted the outside......wow now that is a dog house if you ask me.

The best part is to buy a plastic kennel it would cost about $100 but Jon built this kennel with all the bells and whistles for only $80. Our next step is the pour concrete next to the garage so the kennel sits on that instead of uneven grass, not to mention dogs like to dig and I do not want holes all around the kennel it would make our house look trashy.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JON!!

Well for all of you who do not know, today is Jon's birthday!!! Yep the big 31! We do not have anything too special planned but we are going out to eat at a new restaurant in Brookings (Bravo's) and then we will head to Flandreau to hit the money booth (Marilyn we will be there around 7:30pm but will call you on the way and I WILL have my camera). So to celebrate his birthday I wanted to share some pictures of him.

PS....He wanted to thank grandma Mydland for the card and money, that was very sweet of you!!

This is our very FIRST picture taken together, I was a senior in high school and we had just started dating. Wow we really look young!

Since Jon was too old for me to take to Prom my senior year he took me to SF for a special evening where we had dinner (where the ceiling fell in on us WHILE we were eating) and did tons of other fun things.

This picture was taken when he was stationed in Colorado before heading to Iraq, I flew down there a couple of times to be with him before he headed overseas.

Here he is in Iraq spending some time fishing and making naughty signs.

Since the army gave him time to come home and get married we went on a quick honeymoon before he headed back overseas. So he had a great time soaking up the sun in the Bahamas.
During our honeymoon he got picked out of the crowd to do the limbo. NOTE the red face, way too much sun.

Here he is spending time in his favorite chair with our favorite puppy dog.

Time for a quick smile at his sister Jennifer's wedding.

Trevor & Daddy checking out the pool at our resort in Florida. Trevor was a little over 1 at the time.

During the same trip to Florida we made a stop at Daytona Beach!

Jon and his sister Jennifer shaking a leg at her wedding.

Happy Birthday Jon you are a great father, dad and husband!!

Too Much to Say

Isn't it funny how some days I can not think of a thing to post and then days like today I could write for hours!! So first of all I promised Jon I would post what he had requested. Yesterday when he was at work (still working on building 6 at Daktronics) they had a visit from Ron Gardenhire who is the Manager of the Minnesota Twins along with 2 players and another office person. He was not sure what there names where but that they were there taking a tour. I guess they are on a tour of the surrounding cities (Brookings, Marshall, SF, etc) and they made a stop at Daktronics. Jon really wanted me to post this for Grandma Mydland because he knows how much she likes the Twins!!

Second of all my post for today was going to be about Jon and his hunting trip that he is taking this weekend. He is traveling to Chamberlain with the Rost boys for the weekend and they are going coyote hunting (seriously who goes coyote hunting) it just cracks me up to listen to them talk to each other on the phone. They act like they are dating and are planning this big grand trip. So Jeremy was at our house this morning at 9:30am and they were heading out to pick up Corey. Then of course they were going to stop at Cabela's (in Mitchell, SD) since it is on the way. I sure hope they have fun freezing their butts off!

Hunting and Fishing

Well as it turns out Jon had to take his week long vacation this week because of the start of his new year at work. If he would of waited and took it with me when I had off he would of lost it so he had to use up 37 hours. He went to work on Monday but has the rest of the week off and next Monday and Tuesday. So can anyone guess what he has decided to do with his time off since Trevor and I are not home?? Yep, go hunting and fishing!! Tuesday he went pheasant hunting with Mydland and then went fishing at Fish Lake and brought some home for Trevor to see but there were not any big enough to eat. Then yesterday him and our old neighbor Lucas went hunting and then fishing all day. Once again did not bring anything home big enough to eat, I like to give Jon a bad time about this. So here are some pictures that I took because Trevor was so excited to see the fish and the pheasant! Even though the fish were not big enough to eat I really thanked Jon for bringing them home to show Trevor because he was so excited!

Gout

Alright so those of you who know Jon know that he never complains about anything unless it is really bad. For example we have been together for many years and I have only had to take him to the hospital once and that was for a kidney stone. So Sunday he started complaining that his big toe was hurting him and I just laughed and said quit wining you probably just stubbed it.....he laughed and said yeah you are probably right.

So as the night went on he said you know that is really hurting do you think I might of done something to it. My response was "no" we have not done anything all weekend but sit here. So Sunday night he could not sleep because it hurt and he woke up and iced this foot and said it felt better. So yesterday morning he said it was still hurting so I talked him into going to the doctor to get it checked out, he agreed....this never happens so I knew something was wrong.

After a trip to the doctor he found out that he may have "gout" in his big toe. For those of you who have never heard of it well here you go:

What is gout?
Gout is condition that results from crystals of uric acid depositing in tissues of the body. Gout is characterized by an overload of uric acid in the body and recurring attacks of joint inflammation (
arthritis). Chronic gout can lead to deposits of hard lumps of uric acid in and around the joints, decreased kidney function, and kidney stones. Gouty arthritis is usually an extremely painful attack with a rapid onset of joint inflammation.

The doctor gave him a perscription to help move the acid and to releave some pressure. His toe looks really funny because there is a big bump on the side of it as you will see in the picture.

The Shrine Parade

Well this post is mainly for Amber 2 because she had asked for pictures of Jon with his Shrine hat and everything one and this is as close as I could come. During his trip to Wisconsin they were in parades and in the one he was asked to drive a plane in the parade and so he did. They told him not to get to close to a building or cars because the wing would catch and the plane would tip over but he got too excited and caught up in the moment and got a wing caught and he tipped the plane over. So he got off it leaned it back up and went on his way again. I hope you enjoy the pictures. (Pictures are compliments of Diane Healy)

Jon could build anything anywhere if you wanted him too, he is a very handy man. Check out the project!! Sorry the before picture is not that great.

Our 3 Year Wedding Anniversary!

Today marks the spot of our 3 year wedding anniversary!!! I know that I do not even have to say this but it does not even seem like that long. All and all we have been together 7 years......holy smokes that is a long time. I do not even know where to start in this post because there is so much to say. Jon and I have been through more then most couples when it comes to experiences. After dating for 3 years and moving into an apartment together, Jon graduating from SDSU and getting a great job at Waltz he gets his orders to go over seas......this threw a huge black spot over everything. Right then and there you think about all the things you are thankful for and pray to god that the man that you love comes back home safely. With the help of family and friends we made it through 18 months of being separated. Jon was only gone over seas for a couple months when he had his week to come back and see family and that is when he proposed and said that he wanted to be with me forever. The wedding date was set for June because his unit was due to come home in April. As the months moved on things did not work out the way we had planned, he had received his orders to stay until August.....at this point there were knots in our stomach wondering what to do. With the help of some higher ups Jon was able to come home for a 3 week leave so we could get married on June 5th 2004. Jon flew home a week before the wedding and we were all at the airport to welcome him home as he walked down the escalator in his national guard uniform. We had signs and the whole works and even the KELO-LAND news crew was there to do a story on us. (I have a copy of that in case anyone has not seen it) The wedding went off with no problems at all, with over 400 guests, our family and friends it was a great reunion to see everyone again. Two days later Jon and I headed to Minneapolis to fly down to the Bahamas where we took our honeymoon. We stayed at Sandals Resort for 7 days and enjoyed every minute of it. The worst part about this whole situation was that after we got back from the Bahamas it was time for Jon to head back over seas to finish his duty. Let me tell you that was one of the hardest good bye's we have ever had to do. Two months had gone by and Jon came home for good....I still remember that day in Sisseton, it was foggy as ever and here comes the buses rolling through the fog with our soldiers on it.....it was nice to see him again because this time I knew he would not have to go back again. One month after that we knew what we both wanted and we had decided to start a family.....at this point we felt we had missed out on so much so we did not want to waste another minute. We got pregnant with Trevor in September and he was born June 21 2005. We spent the next year raising Trevor and experiencing life as parents. Now Trevor will be 2 in just a couple of weeks and the rest seems like it has happened yesterday. It has been a great 3 years and I look forward to spending many more years together, Happy Anniversary Jon!!
Sorry some of the pictures did not turn out that well, I got into a fight with the scanner!

Thanks for visiting Healy Happenings and come back soon!
