Not much going on

This week as been pretty slow and I have not really had a lot to post about. I just picked Trevor up from school and it is going really good, he is 2 weeks in already. This week they started to have a letter of the week and of course it was A this week. Today he painted with apples and he loved it and managed to not get any on his clothes. The first couple of days at school he wet his pants because he was too scared to tell anyone and was just not used to the environment but now things are good and he has gone to the bathroom all week.

During the second week of October the class is taking a field trip to the pumpkin patch here in Brookings and Jon and I have signed up to be parent supervisor's so we are all looking forward to that, Treovr is looking forward to riding in the bus out there.

Jon is finishing up his gun cabinet that he has been working hard on and then I will share that with you but other wise it is work, school, eat and sleep this week. We have a big wedding this weekend with the groomsmen dinner tomorrow night and wedding Saturday so it will be a busy weekend. I hope everyone is having a good week!

Last Day

Today is my official last day at Medary until August 31st.....we will close our doors at 2pm and all of my employees are very excited. To me it does not even seem like it could be this time of year already.
Speaking of this time of year my sister-in-law and I had the same idea for our post today (great minds think a like right?)
When we moved into our new home it was during the winter months so we had no clue as to what was planted for landscaping but much to our suprise we really like everything we are seeing. I am very suprised how well it was kept up plus the previous owner left the tags next to each plant so we knew what it was...nice lady.

Don't worry we are going to get rid of the ugly edging.

I want everyone to put the date June 21st on their calendar that is going to be Trevor's birthday party....it will start at 1pm and go until whenever!

Can't Remember

I can not remember the last time that May graduation at SDSU was 40 degrees. I always remember it being very nice out, sunny and most parties taking place on the graduates front yard drinking beer and playing bean bags. But that is not the case for this year. They are expecting a high near 42 degrees with rain and wind. This weather can not get any more depressing!!

PS....my brother will be one of the many graduates on Saturday, yeah Greg!

Where to begin

I am not even sure where to begin I have had such a wild and crazy 4 days. Thursday I was in Sioux Falls testing my luck finding bargains at rummage sales. The weather was the worst I can ever remember it being but Marty and I just stayed under an umbrella and kept going (12 hours to be exact). I found lots of clothes for Trevor and a top of the line Thomas the Train track (according to Trevor it is awesome) the track sits on a table and you can arrange the track however you want it and under the table is all storage, it is a great step-up and Trevor loves it so that is all that counts.

Then Friday I headed to Fargo for Dawn Leibfried's wedding and we are soooo lucky we left when we did. The roads so horrible and once we got there we found out that the interstate closed, so we were very lucky.

The wedding was at 4pm and the reception and dance followed, it was a great time!! It was fun to see some of my classmates again and of course catch up.

Then once the interstate opened on Saturday we headed home and I picked up Trevor and we hung out the rest of the night. Throughout this whole ordeal Jon went to Big Stone Lake to go fishing in a tournament with Corey. They got just as much snow there as anyone so the tournament was suspost to be Saturday but was postponed until Sunday. They still did get catch anything but I am sure had a lot of fun. What a crazy 4 days and who would of thought that weather would of done what it did??

Junk

Well this time of year in Brookings it is the annual Brookings City Wide clean up. What this means is anything you have that is junk and you no longer want all you have to do it haul it out to the curb and the city comes by and picks it up for you. Residents could start filling up there curbs on Sunday and our part of the town gets picked up first starting next Monday. I am telling you people put everything out there from toilets, trees, fridges to stoves. It is very amazing to see the stuff that is laying out but what is more funny is the people we go curb shopping and pick up other people's stuff.

Last night we cleaned out our garage, basement and even did some landscaping (cutting down a little ugly pinetree and trimmed some branches) and hauled it all out to the curb. No more then 15 minutes later a guy stopped and did some shopping and found a few things and was on this way. Jon just called me and reported that our pile went from heaping high to hardly anything left other then the branches and the little ugly pine tree.

I do have to admit my brother and I do on occation go curb shopping but what we find always works and is always a good deal. Two years ago we saw what we thought was a fridge and we were going to use it in his garage but once we got it home and pluged in we found out it was a freezer but of course you always have room for a freezer and still to this day it has worked like a charm......rememeber this was sitting on someone's curb. So I should not say everything is junk because 98% of it is but there is always that other 2%.

You know what they say one man's junk is another man's treasure!!

JELLO Cake

Today has been a very informative day at work. Not only have I been getting all my work done but I learned how to make Jello cake and let me tell you it is an experience. I wanted to share how we make it because there are so many ways.

First thing we did was make a sheet cake in the oven and let it cool.
Next we mixed up some cherry Jello and we let it disolve for 3 minutes so in the mean time we poked tons of holes in the cake with a fork.
Then we poured the Jello on top of the cake and it soaked in the fork holes, and we put it in the cooler so it sits over night.
Tomorrow we will frost the cake and serve it by the piece.

It is not a very fancy recipe but when you are cooking for 1000 kids a day you have to keep it simple. AND I learned something today.

This is one of the perks at my job and that is when I need a break from paper work or the computer I just head to the kitchen to cook something new!

Quiet but Crazy

Well this past weekend Jon ventured West to go hunting and after all that planning and money spent they did not even get 1 coyote so Jennifer do not worry about getting any coyote jerky. So the weekend for the most part was quiet but yet crazy. Friday night Trevor was not feeling good and I could tell he was getting sick because he was cranky and I could see it in his eyes so we just went out to the Syrstad's for pizza and where home early and in bed by 9pm. We did not get much sleep because he developed a bad cold and could not sleep very long because when he would lay down his nose would get stuffed up and it was hard for him to breathe so we spent most of the night sleeping in the chair.

Saturday was also pretty uneventful we just sat around the house and watched movies and then Saturday night we were invited in Joel's Hockey game at the Larson Ice Arena in Brookings (he is 6 so it was really cute to watch these little bodies play Hockey). So since Trevor had never been to a Hockey game we went and had a great time. Joel did awesome and even scored a goal!! I like how they rotated the kids every 2 minutes so they all got a chance to play and they played different positions each time. (The pic above is of Joel playing goalie) Then we went to supper with Greg and Kelsi and where back home and in bed by 9pm again. It was also another venturous night because we did not get much sleep. So Sunday was spent laying around and waiting for grandma Diane, grandpa Dennis and great grandma Dottie to stop over and take us out to lunch. They passed through Brookings on their way to the airport to spend 5 days in Arizona where it is warm.....lucky ducks!! Then after Trevor's very long nap grandma Judy and grandpa Dirk came over since they had not seen him in a week they could not go any longer. But this was not the end of the day.....then daddy came home and we were very excited to see him and hear all the stories. AND THEN we were invited to the Pizza Ranch to have supper with my mom's sister Kathy and her family. The pizza was great and we had a good time seeing everyone again. Then it was home to bed. So for it being a quiet weekend it was actually crazy!!

The Ultimate Gift

Jon and I do not watch a lot of movies but it is always nice to do in the winter time. Since we have been working so hard on our house we decided that last night we would just relax. So what better to do then watch a movie. The movie that we watched was called The Ultimate Gift and it is the best movie I have ever seen!!! On a scale of 1 to 10 it was a perfect 10, Jon even agreed with me!! If you are a person who does not watch a lot of movies take some time to watch this one because it will be worth it. Has anyone see it??

Another Project

Well this weekend was a successful one. We started another project at the Healy home, we are going to make over our laundry room. Before we did anything we had to replace all the water pipes because they are copper pipes and that can lead to bad things according to Jon so he took all of them out and replaced them with plastic piping. Jon just amazing at what he can do, so far there is not one thing we have ever had to hire to get done he just goes for it.

Then to our surprise on Saturday we got our first over night visitors Brett Behnke and his friend Amy. We got a babysitter to come over and watch Trevor that evening so we could head down town for supper and drinks. We really had a great time with them!! They headed home Sunday around noon and the laundry project started once again. By last night all the piping was done so tonight Jon is going to start framing walls. How exciting!!

After Christmas Deals

Well let me tell you if you are looking for a good Christmas deal then head to your local Wal-Mart (if you have one). Last night I went to Wal-Mart to get a paint brush and ended up with a car load of Christmas stuff and a paint brush for only $50. I got the following:

A new tree skirt that was $29 for only $11
I also bought matching stockings which were $9.96 and I paid $2.00 a piece
New tree ornaments that were $4.96 for 4 and I paid $1.65 for 4
Christmas bags (med size) that were $2.97 for .65 each

I could go on but would not want to bore anyone. My point is that I got all these cute decorations for next year at 75% off !!

I love bargains!!

Loader Ride

Well this weekend we finished our basement project (pics to come) we just have to do a few more odds and ends and we will take tomorrow and do that. This weekend concluded of finishing painting, put up our new trim and moving in. Jon's family came over and helped with the moving in part and we really want to thank them for that!! We got all the big stuff hauled in and a few small boxes. The rest will be put on a rummage sale come spring.

Then Sunday afternoon my brother came over with my dad's loader and cleaned off our driveway. The past week it has snowed here and there and it really adds up and when we drive on it all the snow gets packed down so Greg and Trevor cleaned all that up. Trevor rode with Greg the whole time and even drove some and most important rose the bucket up and down a thousand times!

Happy, Happy, Happy

I am happy tonight for more then one reason!

Reason 1: I got home and in the mail were 3 very cute Christmas cards (The Sheik Family, The Goodale Family and The Johnson's) thank you to all of you, very cute cards!!

Reason 2: When I got home from the grocery store I received a call from the court house telling me that I do NOT have to report for jury duty because they have settled outside of court.

Reason 3: Tomorrow night is Jon's Christmas party for work and we could not find a babysitter until 9pm so grandma and grandpa Healy to the rescue!! (Don't worry Diane I stocked up on decaf coffe, splenda and soy creamer. I even got you your own little container to put it in so each and every time you visit you will know right where to go.) So thank you for helping us out!!

It has turned out to be a great night!!!!

Round Two!

Alright so I had a great plan to write a nice long post about Christmas but that all came to a damper around 5pm last night. I got home and got the mail and there was a letter for me to appear at the court house YES AGAIN for another round of jury duty! Are you kidding me?? I was furious because it is the worst time since finals are next week and we will be busy shutting down our building for a month. I need to report next Wed so I am going to have my boss call and beg that I do not have to do. Or we can all just wish that they settle outside of court. Do you know how awful it would be to have to do jury duty over Christmas? Especially for me because we are going to be gone for 5 days because of all the places that we have to go. This just really puts a stop to all my happiness.

Thanks to Diane here is a picture of the whole gang from last weekend at Jennifer & Chris's house!

Salary Calculator

http://www.cbsalary.com/?lr=cbmsn&siteid=cbmsnsal1008

This is very interesting! It is a salary calculator so all you have to do is click on the link and type in your job, city and state and it tells you what you should be making. Then it will also give you a average salary, high salary and low salary. From what I typed in it seems acurate but you tell me what you think!

Wallpaper

So how many people have had to take down wallpaper before?? Let me tell you it is not a fun job to do! We have started phase 2 at our house which is the basement.....it is all finished with new carpet it just needs some updating and love. The living room has wallpaper border so I am trying to get it off so I can start to paint and then we can move furniture in.

Well the purpose of this post is to talk about wallpaper. I have never really had to deal with it except for when I put it up but never have had to take it down. I am more of a person who likes to experiment with different ingredients to get it to come off rather then spending $50 at the store. So my mom told me the recipe she used and it is a spray bottle with water and fabric softener in it. Spray it on heavy and scrap or peel off. Guess what??? It worked, thanks mom! Not only did it work but the room smells good while I am working. The other recipe I know of is something with vinegar....yuck just the smell would make me pass out.

More curious then anything but how many other techniques are out there? Do you know of any?

Forward

I got these forward this morning and it really made me laugh so I thought I would share. Have a good day!

YOU KNOW YOU ARE LIVING IN 2007 when...

1. You accidentally enter your password on the microwave.

2. You haven't played solitaire with real cards in years.

3. You have a list of 15 phone numbers to reach your family of 3

4.You e-mail the person who works at the desk next to you.

5. Your reason for not staying in touch with friends and family is that they don't have e-mail addresses .

6. You pull up in your own driveway and use your cell phone to see if anyone is home to help you carry in the groceries.

7. Every commercial on television has a web site at the bottom of the screen.

8.Leaving the house without your cell phone, which you didn't have the first 20 or 30 (or 60) years of your life, is now a cause for panic and you turn around to go and get it.

10. You get up in the morning and go on line before getting your coffee.

11. You start tilting your head sideways to smile. : )

12. You're reading this and nodding and laughing.

13.Even worse, you know exactly to whom you are going to forward this message.

14. You are too busy to notice there was no #9 on this list.

15. You actually scrolled back up to check that there wasn't a #9 on this list.

AND NOW U R LAUGHING at yourself.

Tastefully Simple

Well last night I attended a Tastefully Simple party and it was interesting for me because I have never been to one before. I hate going to things like where they talk non-stop forever about this and that and how there product is so good. I am the kind of person who needs to see these products and in a case like this taste them and not listen to why this or that is the best.

It was a nice set-up you came in and just went right to the kitchen and there was a nice display of different things to try. The hostess also gave you a catalog to look in while you where sampling so you could see the different prices. Overall most everything I tried was really good except for the garlic garlic dip....YUCK. I did manage to order some things to try so family members watch out that is what I will be making for Christmas. Diane & Mert you will be my official taste tester because you are one who likes to do that kind of thing.

Robbed

Well I would of loved to of posted all about our Thanksgiving weekend today but I came into work today and found out that I had been robbed over the weekend. The C-Store and the new Java City both had money taken from and my digital camera card reader was taken so I can not post any pictures and what fun is a post without pictures. I have been talking with the cops and detectives all morning and they did some finger print testing so we will see what happens. Sorry for the delay but I will try and post some pictures for tomorrow's post.

Yeah it's Friday

Is everyone glad it is Friday?? Well I know I am! I have nothing at all planned for this weekend....finally. I will finish unpacking boxes and continue to throw more crap away, half of the time I wonder "why the heck did I buy that"? I just might rake some leaves into Marilyn's yard on Saturday but we will see what happens and how much time I have!!

Jon on the other hand has a fun filled weekend planned or so he thinks. This weekend is the first weekend of Minnesota Deer Hunting....YUCK. He leaves tonight for Ivanhoe for the weekend and will come home later Sunday evening.

Diane, Bonnie and Grandma Mydland have fun shopping in the Cities!!

Boss' Day & Weekend Recap

First of all I am sorry I did not post anything yesterday, it was a very busy Monday.

For those of you who do not know today is Boss' Day! I was unaware of this and when I came into work I thought it was funny how my employees were being so nice but I did not think anything of it. Then I went to have my morning bowl of soup and noticed that Marie my head cook had put out Chicken and Wild Rice (my favorite)! Then once I got back into my office I had a delivery from Flowers on Main.....with a card that said "To our favorite boss, love your Medary gang" how nice was that???? Isn't this the cutest thing you have ever seen??? My employees are so sweet.

Alright so this past weekend was nice because we did nothing but relax. Jon was busy working on another side project so Trevor and I spent the weekend hanging out. Saturday my mom invited us over for lunch and uncle Danny came over also and Trevor was excited about this because he rode his lawn mower tractor over and Trevor wanted to sit on it. So thanks to Danny Trevor got his wish.

Other then that we did nothing except pack because last weekend was the last one that we would be at Greg's house because we get our house in 2 DAYS!!!!! Yeah!

Thanks for visiting Healy Happenings and come back soon!
