NetFlix

Anyone heard of NetFlix?? Well I had heard of them but really never looked into it but I did this past weekend and signed us up. Talk about a good deal if you watch movies! There are different packages you can sign up for and they range for $4-$19 a month. The one I picked is 2 movies at a time and you can keep them as long as you want (no late fees) and just send them back in the mail and when they get one or both back they will send one or two more. The best part is they only take 1 business day to get. What a great deal~~We get our first 2 today so we will see how things go, if you are a movie watcher you better check it out.

Jon and I do rent a lot of movies but the problem we ran into was by the time we had the time to sit down and watch them they would be a day late or due back the next day so we always paid more to keep it an extra day and what a waste of money. This is exciting and we can not wait to see how it goes.

Lots of News

Today so many good things happened I am not sure where to start!

At 11:48am this morning I recieved a call from my brother and Kelsi informing me that they are now engaged!!!!!! How exciting! They went to Boston for the weekend and left yesterday and that is where it happened. We are very excited for them and can not wait for the wedding. No dates have been set yet but I am sure they will decide very soon.

Then at 3:16pm I was also informed that one of my good friends Rebecca (Steffes) Johnson had a baby boy. He weighed 7 lbs and 9 oz and they named him Jace Allen. Congratulations to the new mom and dad!! Lucky Becca delivered 2 weeks early, her due date was not until June 2nd but her and baby Jace are doing great!!!

Warm Weather

Last week we were spoiled with the warm weather, we even set some records with it getting to 92 degrees in Sioux Falls on Thurday. Jon was gone fishing in Big Stone (they ended up getting 25th out of 149 teams so not bad) so Thursday night Trevor and I went to the park. Grandma Diane called and said she was in town so she came with us and we had a picnic. You forget how boring the winter can get when you are stuck in the house all day and night. We made up for it though by going to the park and having a great time!! Here are some pictures of the T-man going nuts on the playground equipment.

Way Behind

I am in trouble for not posting more often but we have been busy and with the nice weather who wants to sit at a computer??

So what have we been up too you might ask? Well this week I attended the annual Kingswood Rummage Sales in Sioux Falls, they started earlier this year so I went Tuesday afternoon and all day on Wednesday. The weather was so perfect (way better then I can say for last year) but the rummages sales where spread over so many days it was hard to pick when to go. Normally they are Thurs-Sat and this year they where Tues-Sat. I still ended up finding all kinds of items for baby H.....but if I was not pregnant not sure I would of had the best of luck. I think people are cutting back due to the economy because mainly this year it was clothes, clothes and more clothes. I turned out great with lots of outfits for baby H. and tons of clothes for T-man even a winter columbia jacket for next winter for $6. I know I am mean and not going to say whether I bought pink or blue but I will show you a couple of other items I purchased!!

Baby Papasan Chair that vibrates and plays music

A mat to play on with lots of colors

So not only with that being a crazy part of the week, Jon left today until Saturday to be in a fishing tournament with Corey at Big Stone Lake, so I am a single parent until Saturday night. Good boys and I hope they win this year like they did 2 years ago. At least this year the weather is nice, last year it snowed and they had to scoop snow out of the boat on Saturday morning before the tournament!!

What the heck?

Anyone else sick of winter???? A couple of days ago our yard looked great, we mowed up all the dead stuff and got 4 bags of crap our yard was turning green. Now look!

On a side note we have lots of dead animals in our freezer and I told Jon we better find recipes to start making things or we are going to end up throwing it all away, tonight we made cream pheasant and it was very good!!!

NCAA Tournament

Some of you may know that the SDSU girls basketball team has won the Summit League and got a spot in the NCAA (for the first time in history)with their first game being last Sunday when they played TCU. Well they not only won that game but they tied a record that was set by Harvard in 1996 for 16 3-pointers in one game. Tonight they play again against Baylor at 8:30pm on ESPN........if you have ESPN you should watch it because it is going to be a huge game! SDSU is #7 and Baylor is #2, the game is so big that the President has canceled everything for today including a big dinner he had with us tonight to fly down to Texas to watch the game. Go Jacks!!

Pro Start

This year I was asked again to be a judge at the high school for the Pro Start team. It is kind of like the show Top Chef where they have a certain amount of time to get their meal done and then we judge them on performance, appearance and taste. It took about 2 hours and was lots of fun, this year I took my camera with to capture some moments. They compete on Tuesday in Mitchell for State, last year they won it so I hope the same happens this year. Our chef here at SDSU has been their mentor this whole year and has done a great job with them.
Here are some pictures of them prepping and actually making the meal.

Then the finished product!

This was the appetizer, salmon wrapped in baked walleye with a light salad with spicy sauce in the middle.

The entree was grilled buffalo and pheasant with berry sauce served with brown sugar potatoes and spinach.

Finally the dessert was cream de cacao with homemade chocolate mousse.

Not to mention the food was awesome!!

Wheel of Fortune

An interesting factoid for you!! Tonight is the 5000 episode of Wheel of Fortune which means they have been on the air for 26 years! The most interesting part is that Vanna has never worn the same dress twice, which means 5000 dresses!!

What A MESS!

What a mess is putting it mildly!!!! Since we have finished our laundry room and everything perfect the plumbing has been acting up, like whenever I wash clothes tons of water comes out of the drain and floods the laundry room and it is gross and smells. So we knew we had to replace the pipes under the floor because the original ones are copper (Jon thinks everyone should have plastic) and where not big enough to handle the water from the washing machine, sink in the kitchen and dish washer.

Today he is home because last night we tore up the whole floor from the laundry room to the downstairs bathroom including the bathroom floor. Oh my gosh what a mess!!! He is at home as we speak putting all new piping in and then filling the floor back in with dirt and then we will pour concrete back over the top. After that is done we will have to retile the laundry room floor along with new carpeting throughout the basement. Oh yeah and replace everything in the downstairs bathroom (toilet, sink etc) since we are doing this Jon is going to redo the floor plan in that bathroom because you could hardly move in there, when we are done it is going to look awesome!!

The once perfect laundry room floor.

The hallway in the basement through the closet, all carpet is torn up and thrown away.

The wonderful bathroom!

It is a darn good thing Jon knows how to do all of this because otherwise it would of been $2,000-$5,000 to fix. Instead it is costing us around $100 for the supplies and the labor is FREE!

Jon just called to inform he that the pipe was actually broken completely in half!!! So if we would of waited any longer we would of been in trouble!

A New Faucet

Through all the holiday mumbo jumbo we where able to get some stuff done around the house and one of those small items that needed to get done was changing the kitchen faucet. The one that was there when we moved im leaked all the time and was an eye soar. So last week put the new one in and it is night and day difference, we love it!

Trevor was a good helper

We where able to get rid of the water spout since our new fridge now has water in the door!

Ugly Sweater Party

Last night was my Christmas party for work and it was at Foleys in Sioux Falls. My boss came up with the idea that all managers and there spouse should come in a ugly sweater and if not she would not buy dinner. So MOST of us did and come to find out she did not but we still had a good time.

A New Dishwasher

It has finally happened, we have recieved our new dishwasher!!! Yesterday was a great day for us because we recieved our new dishwasher that we have wanted for over a year or at least since we have moved into the house we are currently in. The one that was in the house when we bought it was really small and old but it did work but only for about a week or so until it blew up and started smoking. My mom and dad bought us our new dishwasher as our Christmas present and WE LOVE IT!!!! Yesterday when it came Jon hooked it up and we washed a load last night and it was heaven! THANK YOU mom and dad very much we love it. THANK YOU also to Jennifer for letting us buy it through her work website and getting a great deal. Here are some before and after pictures. THANKS again mom and dad!!!

This the before picture of the little black dishwasher.

The new and improved!

Cravings

Lately my cravings have not been that bad. It has mainly consisted of fresh fruit like strawberries, raspberries, pears etc. But last night I had a weird one I went to the store just to buy dried apricots and they where soooo good, yes I went out in the freezing cold and that was dumb but so worth it. At least I am not craving something bad for you like McDonald's Big Mac or a Whopper. Another thing that is really good these days is SDSU Ice Cream, we buy it by the half gallon at Hy-Vee. When I was pregnant with Trevor I ate pickles by the gallon and this time around I really do care for them that much. Weird I know.

Quiet Weekend

This past weekend was a quiet one. Jon worked almost all weekend at my mom and dad's house finishing their garage so Trevor and I stayed home all weekend and got caught up on laundry, cleaned house and finished putting up the Christmas tree. I know now at looking at it that I need more stuff to put on it but I will wait until all the sales after Christmas to stock up for next year. For the most part I am happy with what I have and Trevor had a great time helping me decorate it.

Today if everyone would say a little prayer for my aunt Sheryl as she is under going open heart surgery. Sheryl is my dad's brother Scott's wife and they have 3 boys. Last week she had what they thought was a galbladder attach but they ran some tests and found out it was more then that when they found something wrong with her heart and her pancreas so they rushed her to Sioux Falls Heart Hospital on Thursday. What they found was a tear in her main valve that needed repair immediately. They could not do anything until her pancreas was under control so they held off with surgery until today. They are telling the family it is a very long surgery so most of the family is down their to support them, depening on how things go we may head down there tonight also. Please keep her in your prayers!

First Snow

Well yesterday we got our first taste of snow, it seems like it was just a few months ago that it was winter and not summer. Trevor was more then excited to see the snow when he got up from his nap. The first thing he said to his daycare provider was "its snowing, now my dad can take me hunting!" Jon told him when it snows he would take him pheasant hunting so that is all Trevor talked about last night. This morning he was bummed to find all of it gone when we woke up.

Since it gets dark early at night and it is getting colder we are inside a lot more now which means we watch a lot of movies and last night we watched 88 minutes and it was really good. Make sure to fast forward the first 10 minutes not something you want to see but other then that good movie.

Water

In our old house we installed a underground sprinker system and we loved it. Our grass was always green but the flipside was it always had to be mowed and the system had to get cleaned out every fall and on and on. Well since we have moved into our new home with no spriker system I have had to mow less but our yard has not always looked the best either. At first I missed not having the perfect green yard but then it was nice on those weeks on end without rain that I did not have to mow. Over the past week or so we have gotten enough rain to green up our yard again and it is coming back to shape. Jon has been pulling weeds like crazy the past 2 days by hand. So last night I got out the mower and bagged the whole yard while Jon finished pulling weeds and weedeating. The overall finished product is awesome, our yard looks awesome. The moral of my story is you do not have to have a sprinker system to have a nice yard and look at all the water that you save.

Cow Pie Bingo

Yesterday while I was eating lunch I asked a few of my employees that where sitting next to me how their weekend was and most of them just did the usual "alright". Then one of older ladies out of the blue says "well I played cow pie bingo on Saturday night" I stopped and looked at her and said "what did you say"? And sure enough I heard her right, she played cow pie bingo. Most of you are probably wondering what that is, well I will fill you in because I think it is hilarious.

The town of Arlington had their celebration last weekend and they blocked off main street and drew squares on the road with a number in each square and people can bet up to $5 on a square. You are betting on which square the cow will poop in first and the person who wins gets the whole jackpot which was around $200. She said the game took 2 hours before the cow did her business and then it started all over again......only in South Dakota!
