Time for School

I know I have been absent from blogging for a couple of days but you have to give me a break because it is move in weekend at SDSU this weekend and this week is CRAZY!

Yesterday afternoon we went to an open house at Trevor's new school. He got to meet all his teachers, new classmates and was able to get famaliar with the surroundings and he loved it! Here are some pictures to give you an idea of what school will be like for him.
These pictures were taken before we left, he was so excited to wear his new backpack!
Here he is playing with his new friend Lexis.

This is the learning rug they sit on for story time.

He loves the sinks, they are just his size.

This is the structure table and this week the teacher had macaroni in it and next week it will be something different, it gets them familar with different structures!

He was concentrating so hard I caught him off guard, can you tell?

This is the area they sit at for snack time

They even have drinking fountains his size, he was pumped about that!

Even little potties!!

They also have a huge gym for the kids to play in when they can not go outside for recess, Trevor loved it so much he just stood there.

Dad, why do we have to leave????

Trevor stood outside and was very sad and did not understand why we had to leave!

The whole night Jon was showing Trevor the room and all the cool things because 3 years ago Jon built that huge addition when he worked for Waltz Construction so the rest of the night Trevor walked around "my daddy built this room"!

Trimming a Tree

You would think that trimming a branch off a tree would be no big deal right? Well Trevor's sandbox is really close to some bushes and so I asked Jon to just trim the branch that is very long and hanging over the top of Trevor's sandbox. No big deal right? Well I was mowing lawn and needed some water so I ran in the house and got some water and went to the bathroom and this is what I found when I walked outside about 5 minutes later:

He cut down the WHOLE tree! I said "Jon what are you doing"? He replies with "well I thought it was an ugly tree anyway so I cut it down"!

I would also like to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my grandpa Kenny!!

Mustard

I got this forward today and thought it was hilarious because I khow much Jon loves mustard!

As ham sandwiches go, it was perfection: a thick slab of ham on a fresh bun with crisp lettuce and plenty of expensive, light brown, Gourmet Mustard. The corners of my jaw aching in anticipation, I carried it to the table in our backyard, picked it up with both hands, but was stopped by my wife suddenly at my side. 'Here, hold Johnny (our six-week-old son) while I get my sandwich,' she said. I had him balanced between my left elbow and shoulder and was reaching again for the ham sandwich when I noticed a streak of mustard on my fingers.
I love mustard.
I had no napkin.
I licked it off.
It was not mustard.
No man ever put a baby down faster. It was the first and only time I have sprinted with my tongue protruding out. With a washcloth in each hand, I did the sort of routine shoeshine boys do, only I did it on my tongue. Later, after she stopped crying from laughing so hard, my wife Said, 'Now you know why they call that fancy mustard "Poupon".

Our New Fridge

When I left work yesterday I had no idea that I would be getting a new fridge but man was it a good suprise. Our old fridge was the one that was in the house when we bought it and it was not that bad except that I had to use DUCK TAPE to hold the shelves in place and last week it started to freeze things like a dozen eggs. We have been on the look out for one but when you do your research fridges are very expensive. We did not want anything fancy just something almond to match all the other appliances. Well Jon has been shingling this house about 3 blocks from our house and I know the couple since he is the assistant director of the Student Union I see him everyday (this is why he got the shingling job). Well I went to visit Jon last week and noticed this nice fridge they had in there garage maybe 2 years old. It had double doors, freezer on left and fridge on right along with a water and ice dispensor on the door, I am thinking to myself how perfect is that fridge for us. I told Jon next time Keith was around to ask him if it was for sale and if so we wanted it at a good price!! Well Jon called last night about 8pm and said he just bought that fridge for $250! Hell yeah that is a great deal! It is only 2 years old and when they moved in 6 months ago they bought all new appliances so it has been in the garage since then so really it is very new and it great shape.

So he loaded it up and brought it home, they were so happy to get it out of there garage and I was happy to have a fridge without DUCK TAPE on the shelves. The best part is that they just took the $250 out of what they owed him so we did not have to come up with the money, it was a win win situation for both parties!!

Here is the old one that will be a great beer and pop fridge in the garage!

Here is the new one, it is bigger but does not take up that much more space then the old one did.

Once I filled the outside up with all the pictures and stuff it fit right in like the old one did.

The best part is all the room it has in the door for milk, juice and big containers I LOVE IT!

Dianna's Wedding

Well this past weekend one of my great friends got married and it was a very beautiful wedding. It was nice to see all my friends again, it was even better since the wedding was in Brookings and I did not have to travel anywhere. Here are some pictures:

Falling out of Bed

I am out the door and headed for Fargo to check out an Extreme Pita, since tickets were way too expensive to fly me to Canada this was the alternate. The one I am visiting has only been open for 3 weeks and they have arranged for me to even work there, how exciting. I will be back tomorrow afternoon so this will be my last post of the week.
For the past couple of weeks Trevor has fallen out of bed at least one every week and I could not figure out why. He says it is not his fault and his bed is too small. So last night before I went to bed I went in to check on him and this is what I found:

Trevor sleeps all over the bed just like his dad!!

Polish Days

Well this past weekend was another successful weekend for Polish Days in Ivanhoe, MN. We had a great time, too much fun actually! I look forward to this weekend all year long because of all the people I get to see and have not seen in a while. Most of my class mates from high school come home and most of Jon's friends are home so it is a must every year. We now have it on the calendar for next year. I think that it is also funny how EVERY year it rains at least some and this year was no different. It rained Saturday night for a little over an hour and most people would think that would put a damper on things but man are they wrong. You just find the nearest shelter with a keg a beer in it and you stay there until the rain stops and that is just what we did. It was probably a bad thing for Jon because that is what really put him over the edge but we have to remember that is what Polish Days is about. We were also very lucky this year because Jennifer came home and also brought her friend Melissa with, so with all of us and our friends there was never a dull moment.
Here are some of my favorite snap shots from Polish Days 2008!

Jack let me wear his sunglasses for just one picture, I was honored!

This picture cracks me up everytime I look at it, Jen and I were laughing at something and then Jack just sticks his head in there!

Fun at the Fair

Frist of all I want to point out that today is 08/08/08....that will never happen again! And I have been absent from blogging because we have been very busy at work since we are not just a few weeks away from opening for Fall semester. Next week will be better.

The Sioux Empire Fair started on Tuesday and I really wanted to take Trevor because he always has tons of fun. So we invited the grandma's to come with us but my mom was unable to make it but grandma Diane came with and we had a great time!! It was her first time at the Sioux Empire Fair and it was a great experience. Trevor really liked looking at all the animals and of course riding on the rides. Happy Friday to everyone!!! Thanks grandma Diane for coming with us last night we had lots of fun!!

Showers, Weddings and Parties!

For the next 3 months 3 of my very good friends will be getting married so you know what that means.....bridal showers, bachelorette parties and the wedding. Last weekend was Becca's shower and this past Saturday was Dianna's shower and bachelorette party. Not to mention next weekend is her wedding, so I have a very busy few months ahead of me. The shower was in Ivanhoe and the bachelorette party was at Becca's house and man did we have a great time!! The shower was great and she had a wonderful turnout and the bachelorette party was even more fun.
It started with a cowboy theme and everyone in white except the bride-to-be. When we first got there it was a social hour and time to catch up with friends we had not seen in a while. Then we went right into a sit down dinner which was homemade pasta alfredo (Dianna's favorite). She then opened all her fancy gifts and had to guess who they were from and then Steph and Becca asked her soon to be husband 20 questions and Dianna had to guess what the answers where. Once all that was done with Al Steffes took us on an hour long hay ride and man was that fun!!! We played a card game and the loosing team took a jello shot and then we stopped for some pictures in a sunflower field (I have never seen one before) and of course a bathroom break.
It was a great weekend and here are a few pictures!!

Open Enrollment

Most of you know that SDSU is an open enrollment college.....well that may not be the case in a few years. Yesterday the president announced that this years enrollment was 12,000 students and that is 300 higher then last fall. The board of regents meet and announced that the maximum that SDSU could hold was the magic number of 13,600. This is raising concerns for a lot of things the first one that pops into my mind is parking. Right now SDSU does not have enough parking for the students and faculty that they currently have. To make matters worse this fall everyone is going to have C parking passes meaning commuter so the staff and students must all share the same lots. The reason for this is because they are going to be starting construction on certain key lots and those lots will be closed until construction is finished.

The second concern they talked about was not having enough housing on campus for students AKA dorm rooms. They are proposing a plan to build either a 300 or 600 bed dorm room on the south east side of campus but would like it done next fall. At this point they are giving second year returning students the okay to live off campus because they do not have enough space for the incoming freshman. To also raise concern about the obvious we will need more room for dining locations, most of our locations are running out of space to feed all these kids during lunch times, at our peak times we are feeking 1500 students at once!!

What a mess, SDSU is growing to fast!! Not to mention everything getting updated because of division 1 and the whole new athletic department they are going to be adding on. They are going to be putting in box seats for the football games. They have also put in reserved seats and are saying that this year they will have a certain amount of tickets to sell for the games and when they are gone the gates close. Iowa state is selling tickets for their football games for $40 per ticket.

Thanks for visiting Healy Happenings and come back soon!
